Twitter Users can Appeal if Accounts are Suspended

Twitter announced that users can appeal if they are affected by account suspension starting February 1, 2023. Later, user accounts will be evaluated against the social media platform's new criteria for reinstatement.

According to the new criteria, Twitter accounts will only be suspended for egregious or ongoing and repeated violations of platform policies. Among those that fall under severe policy violations are accounts that engage in illegal content or activity, incite or threaten violence or harm, and engage in targeted harassment of other users.

Going forward, Twitter will take milder action compared to account suspension. For example, limiting the reach of tweets or asking users to delete tweets before continuing to use the account.

In December, Twitter boss Elon Musk came under fire for suspending the accounts of several journalists. After many protests, Musk then reactivated the account.

Since Musk took over the company, a lot of controversy has happened. Maybe Musk is not the right person to lead the social media platform. Because, moral and content policy improvements have been canceled since Musk joined the company.

One of Twitter's co-founders Biz Stone said running a social media company is not a win-win situation.

"It's always difficult because 50 percent of people are going to be happy and 50 percent are people are going to be mad at you," said Stone, reported by Live Mint, Sunday (29/1/2023).

Since taking over Twitter, Musk has been criticized for his decisions including massive layoffs, tough monetization strategies, reinstating previously banned accounts and more.

Touching on how content policies have changed, Stone says everything that was built is gone now. “We made a lot of improvements about content policies and they are all gone now,” he said.

In 2006, Stone co-founded Twitter with Jack Dorsey, Noah Glass, and Evan Williams. By order of chief executive Dorsey, Stone returned to the business to guide the company.
